The Hans Christian 33 is a stout, safe and comfortable Bluewater cruiser – no wonder they are sought after for offshore cruising adventures. The 33’ was the smallest of the Hans Christians and as such it is the easiest to handle. She has a lovely sheer line that is recognized worldwide, a large bowsprit, and is cutter-rigged with a self-tending staysail. The fuel and water tanks are built into the keel cavity, lending to stability. While she is a full-keel hull, the forefoot is significantly cut away, meaning that it’s built to track well and maneuvers better in tight marinas. The large rudder is well protected by the keel itself. The doubled ended hull is slightly narrower than other HCs, which lends to stability and sea-kindliness. With their solid construction, high bulwarks, cutter rig and canoe stern, they are ready for adventures in any ocean.
8 x Lewmar winches, including L40ST primaries.
The layout is as spacious as many 40-foot boats and sleeps 5 comfortably. There is full standing (6.1ft) headroom and good ventilation throughout via large overhead hatches, bronze opening portholes, dorade vents, and a wide companionway.
Forward is the enclosed anchor locker. Aft of this locker is the head with a sea toilet, separate shower stall and single stainless-steel sink vanity with marble countertop both have hot and cold water.
Aft of this is a large double berth to port with drawers and locker storage beneath. The 2 bins beneath the berth are large enough to stow spare sails and much, much, more. Separate hanging lockers and more drawer storage lies to starboard.
Next to port is an L shaped settee with fixed dinette, and another long settee to starboard that provides a very useable single berth. Everything has stowage behind and beneath, and shelves run along the hull.
The Navigation Station is to starboard with storage below the chart table. The bulk of the electrical systems equipment are concealed in a sizable equipment locker located aft of the bulkhead where the electrical panel is mounted.
Aft to starboard is a separate double cabin with its own hanging locker.
Located to port at the foot of the companionway is the galley, equipped with a gas cooker with 2 burners, grill and, a double stainless-steel sink, also with hot and cold water, large coolbox. Massive amounts of practical storage continues via numerous drawers, lockers, and cabinets.
The engine is located under the companionway steps.
Conclusion of surveyors Report
The subject vessel was found to be substantially structurally sound, but in need of significant systems, equipment, machinery, rigging and cosmetic refit.
That stated, it is the surveyor’s opinion that repaired and renovated, S/Y ‘Annie Irene’ could once again be a first-class example of this traditionally styled and very capable sailing yacht.
The Surveyors Report dated 24 July 2024 is available to interested parties.
