1973 – Wauquiez Chance 37 – stunning externally after major refit

Designed by Britton Chance, a renowned America’s Cup designer, this 37 footer became a great success with 95 hulls built. This example has been comprehensively rebuilt and modernised over the last 3 years. It’s a boat for lovers of the classic style: long, angular cabin top and a beautiful narrow stern.

Pegaso was one of the first Chance 37’s built in 1973 in France and was exported to Italy, being berthed in Trieste.  After the death of the owner, the boat was inherited by his two daughters, who had little interest in her – or in sailing. They eventually parked her out of the water on the shore, and there she stood for some years before putting her up for sale. The current owner, having sold his similar vintage Swan 44 two years previously, purchased her in 2022 looking for a project knowing he enjoyed and trusted that era of sail boat, which are heavier than more modern boats, more seaworthy and with exceptional performance to windward.

Delivered to Poole on the 18th July 2022 by Peters & May, with all charges relating to the importation being paid to HM Customs.

A comprehensive refit was then carried out between 2022 and 2025, costing in the region of £170k and broken down as follows:
