1987 – Wauquiez Centurion 38 with a 2021 Yanmar 3GM30 engine

The Centurion 38 embodies the Wauquiez ethos in abundance. Her powerful sloop rig is easily managed, while her well-protected deck and secure feel inspire confidence when moving around underway. Below decks, sturdy handholds in the companionway provide easy and secure access to the accommodation. Once inside, she opens into a spacious and beautifully finished interior, featuring fine Burmese teak joinery and a genuinely seamanlike layout.

Alouette is a particularly attractive example of the highly regarded Wauquiez Centurion 38, designed by acclaimed naval architect Ed Dubois. Combining elegant classic lines with genuine performance and offshore capability, the Centurion 38 is a rare and desirable yacht.

Manufacture’s Description

Down below there are two spacious sleeping cabins, a vast, airy saloon and a beautiful, large galley which is often only found on much larger yachts. All the joinery is finished in genuine Burmese teak and there are a multitude of details and refinements which set the Centurion 38 apart from other yachts.

On deck the Centurion 38 offers pure sailing pleasure with a finely balanced and responsive helm to please the most demanding sailing enthusiasts.

The amazing turn of speed and the power of the rig can be enjoyed on all points sail: to windward, on a reach or under spinnaker.

Sold new to her first owner in November 1988 by Caravela Yachts at Hamble Point, Alouette has been with her current owner since October 2010 and has benefited from knowledgeable and conscientious ownership.

Over the last five years she has undergone a significant programme of upgrades and improvements, including:

  • Yanmar engine – new in 2021
  • Standing rigging – replaced in 2024
  • Synthetic decking – fitted in 2024
  • Upholstery – renewed
  • Electronics – upgraded

Built by Chantiers Henri Wauquiez, the Centurion 38 benefits from the substantial construction and high-quality craftsmanship for which Wauquiez yachts of this era are renowned. Her sleek, performance-oriented hull, combined with excellent stability and seaworthiness, gives her the ability to deliver enjoyable club-racing performance while remaining a capable and reassuring offshore cruiser.

A rare and well maintained Ed Dubois design, and ready to sail. Alouette is a classic Wauquiez with the performance, pedigree and build quality to provide many more years of rewarding cruising and sailing.
